Abstract

The article reveals the institutional support and tools of Italian cultural diplomacy. The Italian Republic today actively uses cultural diplomacy to promote its culture, values and national interests. Cultural diplomacy in modern Italy is a highly effective political tool and plays the most important role in the country’s image strategy. The main goals include the following: the spread of the Italian language, culture, style, lifestyle, strengthening the positive perception of the state by other actors of international relations.

Cultural institutes promote the image of Italy and its culture, both classical and modern. They organize various cultural events related to, for example, art, music, cinema, literature, fashion, design, they also run courses in Italian language and culture, promote science, etc.

The active policy of cultural institutes contributes to the formation of a positive image of Italy in the international arena, strengthening the country’s position in international markets. The main goals of cultural diplomacy in modern Italy include the spread of the country’s culture, the popularization of the Italian language, the way of life of Italians, and strengthening the positive perception of the state by other actors of international relations.

The listed areas are implemented and coordinated within the framework of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Italy and institutes and bodies established under it, such as the General Directorate for the Promotion of the «System-Country» Concept, the National Commission for the Spread of Italian Culture Abroad and Italian Cultural Institutes, as well as with the help of non-profit organizations (such as the Dante Alighieri Society). These institutes organize various cultural events dedicated to art, the Italian language, music, cinema, fashion, literature, design, promote science, culture and language in the world, strengthen intercultural dialogue, etc. The active activity of these institutes and organizations ensures the achievement of the main direct and indirect tasks of cultural diplomacy: the development of cooperation, cultural exchange and economic relations with other states.
